Abstract: Obtaining fresh water and energy for domestic or industrial uses, especially on isolated islands, is very important. In the open cycle ocean thermal energy conversion (OC-OTEC) system, the steam driving a turbine is generated from surface sea water in an evaporator and is collected in a condenser. The system thus provides both electric power and fresh water. The fresh water can be used for cultivation and air-conditioning on land. This paper describes a hybrid system combining solar and OC-OTEC components and the results of an analysis of the system's performance.
